It's certainly good to have the Forum
back up and functional. We have something else tonight that is back after
an extended hiatus, the Last Defense AAR between Rick and Fionn.
When we last left our brave combatants, Fionn was wiping his jack-boots on
poor Rick's face and laughing hysterically! Now it's turn 10
and the American Tank Destroyers finally make an appearance. Do they they turn
the tide or merely prolong the inevitable? Find out what happens
next right HERE.
Another fresh POTD
is also available for your viewing pleasure. Tonight we see some American
armor doing a little recon by fire! Don't forget that the older POTD's
can be viewed with the Direct Links above or
in the POTD Archive section found HERE.
Also be sure to read the scrolling Did
You Know above as BTS keeps throwing in goodies for you!

The Combat Mission
Forum is again operational with all old messages restored as well!
16:00 EST
It 'appears' that the Combat
Mission Forum at Battlefront.com is back on, however all
previous messages have not (yet?) been restored...
12:40 EST
That's right today is the big day over here
in the US. Sure it's no World Cup ( and yes, even though I am an American
I DO follow European Football too, although I am privy to English Premier League
myself!) but the commercials are cool!
Last night I spent some time over on Lorak's
(I hope I spelled that right!) new Yahoo club for Combat Mission and it
was allot of fun. We held an impromptu little Q&A and I even had a
little contest with the winner getting to chose a subject for the Picture of
the Day. Today's POTD is the
semi-modified result of that request! Enjoy the pic and stop by this fun
chat area...here is the LINK
although you will need to create an account to enter the chat room, but its
pretty painless.
11:50 EST
Just a quick update on the status of the
Combat
Mission Forum over at Battlefront.com....It appears to still
be down...More info when it becomes available.
We have also streamlined the Archived
News area slightly. You may now pick which month's updates you
wish to view instead of seeing the entire 5 month archive at once. Be sure
in check out the Archive section as there
are many goodies located in THERE.
More news to come later tonight...

Looks like BTS is having some post Y2K
glitches over on the Combat Mission Forum.
But we still have you covered with info and features. Besides, all you
really missed was some idiot trying to flame me and Fionn and a thread or two
with the word 'POO' in it. Ok, on to the goodies.
Ariel Ledesma Beccera (wow) has sent in a
pretty busy Last Defense stand alone movie. It's turn 10 and and
all hell breaks loose. Check it out in the Stand
Alone Movie area of the After Action Report
section... Or you can just save this link HERE.

that you may have missed. This page is located in the Archive

New TGN Combat
Mission site! That's right! The long awaited Wild Bill and the
Raiders Combat Mission site is now up and running and they have left the gate
flying! Check out what the wild man Mr. Bill has to say about this newest
boon to all you Combat Mission philes:
The Combat Mission section
is called Boots and Tracks, led by Warmeister Dick Reece. You'll enjoy this
update. Don't miss the updated article on the CM editor or the review of the CM
Wittmann scenario with stunning graphics. Then there is the detailed study
of the Battle of Midway (Fields of Fire site), more scenarios for the Sky
Warriors series in SP2, plus links, book suggestions, etc. We pulled out all the
stops for you this time. Head on over right now! A special thanks to Frank Donati
for getting this material up on the web for us!
And here is the link:
http---wbr.thegamers.net
Check it out, you will like!
Tonight's POTD
isn't anything radically new or even all that spectacular but it does have a
certain special...I don't know...charm?
It's Friday so you know what that
means? That's right, 6 more nights until Dawson's Creek comes
back on! Errr umm, no, it's time for the Max Molinaro
screenshot of the week!!! Tonight we have an exclusive. Max has
received permission to show off a new scenario 'modification' soon to be
released for the demo! Check it out in the newly aquired second page of
his gallery right HERE.

Tonight we have a new article from the ever
fluent "Los" Lourenco. Principals of

thinking with their gaming. Check it out in the Articles

Casualties. They are an unfortunate
necessity of warfare. Men fight, men die. Unchanged since the dawn
of man. Stalin said you can't make an omelet without breaking any
eggs. In war, people die on both sides...UNTIL NOW!
Bil Hardenberger has provided us with an example that will surely go down in the
Combat Mission annals as the single most perfect game ever played with
the demo. You must read it to believe! You will find this incredible
display of tactical skill in the Chance Encounter
section of the After Action Report or simply
use the direct link above or this one HERE.
Today's POTD
comes from a scenario by the man in the Moon, Mr. Martin Turewicz himself.
This one shows the variable weather in Combat Mission as the fog seems to
spawn wave after wave of German infantry.

We finally got the Nav buttons to go up above
by the title picture and that should help making browsing easier, There
are a few features to mention though. The Names
section has been moved into the Archive area
and we have added the new button titled NEWS.
That's the page you are looking at now! The Recent
Headline/Direct Link table will now only go back for one week of
updates. This page itself will retain two weeks of news however with the
older news being placed into the Archive
section as well. You will now see that ALL sections will have the
same top half with all the section Nav-buttons. We hope that these changes
will make navigating the site easier and faster! Thank you...
The original Combat
Mission Beta Demo is now also located in the Archives
section.
New POTD
is up above...This picture was also taken from Los's Dog Red test scenario.

After a rather bumpy start yesterday we think
we have all the bugs out of the Link and Headline table above. One other
change to the site will be that the regular click "HERE" and
"THIS" style links will now also link directly to the feature
instead of the normal section Index Page. This should make browsing the
site more intuitive and easy.
It's been awhile since the last new feature
came along so we decided it was high time to add one. Since it takes a
long time to prepare a Spectacular like Air
Attack or Heavy Metal but there is so much cool stuff to show in Combat
Mission, we have decided to start posting a new screenshot each and
every day. The feature will be called Picture of
the Day (POTD) and the first picture shows a few things people have
been clamoring for recently. This picture was taken from a preliminary
scenario designed by Los and is a mock up of the D-Day beach landing in the Dog
Red sector. This feature will also have an archive so you can go back and
view the pictures from days past. Currently the POTD will be here on the
Newspage but it will probably get its own dedicated section to keep load times
down...

Well its seems our Netscape viewers were
having some problems with the animated links, so we have gone with regular
static images instead.
13:25
EST
Seems something happened to many of our links
below but they should be ok now. Please forward any broken links you find
to me, HERE! Thank
You!
13:00 EST
We have just completed another new addition
to the site features: DIRECT LINKS.
In the link table above you will now see a link chain graphic, like this .
Clicking on that chain will take you DIRECTLY to the item in
question. Clicking on the text will drop you down to its entry on this
page so you can read a little about it before you take the plunge! We hope
you like these new features!
We have also added a few more Combat
Mission links to our Links area.
If you have a Combat Mission site and wish to have us put in a link for you then
drop us an email!
00:20 EST
Getting an early start today. Well
since you have taken time out of your busy Sunday we have a nice surprise for
you. Our own Madmatt (me!) has a new Hero to start off new Heroes

Good evening! Got a few nice treats for
you tonight, so lets get going.
Max Molinaro has dropped off a new work of
art and it's now on display in the Screenshot Gallery.
Max shows us another new feature which may or may not make into the final
cut. View his newest masterpiece right HERE.
Seems the redesigned Heroes
Corner has prompted a wealth of new entrants and for this evening
Fionn Kelly offers up a gallant Anti-Tank gunner and his little 57mm...

Both Quick Tactics
and Did You Know have also been updated for

It looks like the network problems that have
been plaguing us since last week have decided to take the night off and allowed
us to get ready for some new features that we will be unveiling soon.
Right now we have a new entry into the
somewhat neglected Articles section.
This one comes in from Carlos 'Los' Lourenco and is an in depth and
comprehensive overview of considerations for a force commander when planning an
operation. Culled from real world military doctrines and training,
Los has provided a wealth of material that no Combat Mission player or
military student should be without. Check it out right HERE.

WHEW! Just made it! For awhile
there we thought that this might be the first non-update night in over 2 months
but we snook one in at the wire!
Tonight we have another American hero
courtesy of Craig Amundsen who shows us why the Americans fought the way they
did! Check it out on page 3 of the Heroes
Corner right HERE.
13:40 EST
Oh hello! Just popped in to do some

Welcome back to the home for all things Combat
Mission!
After a recent barrage of repetitive and
annoying demands for update progress Steve Grammont of
Big Time Software posted a message in the Forum with a quick update
on the status of things. I have copied the contents for easy
viewing, just click on THIS. We have
included links to Steve's earlier comments from December of last year as well.
Standing tall and proud in our Heroes
Corner area are two new offerings from Bill Carey. It's nice to
see some recognition for the gun crews finally. Head on over and you can
find them both on page 3 or click HERE.
Wild Bill Wilder has provided a very nice Historical
Perspective for the Arnhem
gallery. You will find this in the Screenshot

Ahhh... The sweat smell of success! The
new Heroes Corner awaits! Enter if
you feel worthy. Please note that the current page for Unit
Citations is now page 3 and the Michael
Wittmann feature has been updated with Historical
Perspectives from our dear friend Wild Bill. You may use this LINK
to enter or the Nav-button above...

realize this but the the large Combat Mission HQ
logo at the top of each page is also a link which will take you back UP
one level!

Just to prove that we never rest we have
another little update for you. Max Molinaro, that quack of
cutup, has a new offering in his gallery. We have also updated his
section with thumbnails which will greatly speed up load times. Check out

nick-names. Click HERE to go

Good Morning! Just doing a little early
morning housecleaning here.
You may notice that the Nav-buttons for both
Heavy
Metal and Air
Attack above have been replaced with a new Special
Events button. You will find them both in this new section as
well as the older Flame War feature that was
run last month. This area will be hosting any new Spectaculars
that we run in the coming weeks and months. And boy do we have some good
ones lined up!
There is a new Quick Tactic now up in the New

Coming out strong from the
gate today is a new inductee into our growing Heroes Corner
section. We have added a fourth page and the first entry is from
Dan Brown. Head on over and pay your respects right HERE.
For those of you who just
love watching someone take a beating, we have turn 9 now
available in the Last Defense AAR with Fionn and Rick.
Rick's total report word count goes lower and lower the bleaker his
situation becomes. But don't forget in one more turn Rick's
forces get a 'helluva' boost thanks to some neighboring Tank
Destroyers, so its still anybodies game! See for yourselves
in our After Action Report section by clicking THIS.
By the way, we are
still, yes STILL experiencing some technical difficulties
but the parties partially responsible have become aware of the
situation and at least now acknowledge that SOMETHING is
amiss...We will keep you posted on our little internet drama as it
unfolds!

The problems with the
internet that were plaguing us earlier this week have gotten somewhat
better but we are still not 100% as of yet. Still we think have
enough to keep you occupied for a bit.
It was a bold gambit to end
the war before Christmas and it was to be dealt swiftly and decisively
by seizing several key bridges leading into the German heartland of the
Rhine. Operation Market Garden combined elements of American,
British and Polish units in a coordinated air and land assault.
One of the key bridges to hold was across the Waal river in the town of
Nijmegen. Tonight, Bill Wilder again graces CMHQ
with pictures and commentary from his Nijmegen: Crossing the Waal
Combat Mission scenario. You will find this latest feature
in the Screenshot Gallery right HERE.

Unfortunately we are still
experiencing some very bad network problems which are affecting our
ability to update the site. However, we were able to get at least one
new item uploaded today.
He has been called the
greatest Tank Commander of all time. A remarkable kill toll of
138 Tanks and 132 Anti-Tank and Field Artillery pieces were inflicted
upon his enemies. He raised himself through the ranks and was
embraced by a nation starving for heroes from the front. His name
will forever be synonymous with the phrase: Tiger Ace. His
name was Michael Wittmann and he and his Tiger I Ausf. E
are the latest inductees into the Heroes Corner thanks to the
effort of Bill Wilder. Click HERE

Seem to be having some
network troubles today so the update is going to be a bit smaller than
planned.
What we do have available
is turn 7 in the current Last Defense AAR with Fionn and
Rick. Rick seems to be having problems coping with the speed of
Fionn's advance but it's not over yet! See it for yourselves in
the After Action Report section right HERE.
If things clear up on the
internet side than you can expect another update later tonight!

That curator of comedic
camp Max Molinaro has sent in another picture and it's now
available for framing in the Screenshot Gallery. For those
of you unfamiliar with his work, lets just say he has an equally twisted
take on things! This one is wonderful and you can get to it
through the gallery link right HERE.
17:45 EST
After a week of unrelenting
aerial bombardment the skies are clear once again. Time to count
the costs and reflect on what was learned. Time to learn and
prepare for the next assault and we know of no better way than to read
an After Action Report. After a lengthy delay turn 6
is now available from the Last Defense Demo Scenario between
Fionn and Rick. When we last left Fionn he was whopping up on
poor Rick's defensive line like a narc at a biker convention. Has
Rick pulled the first major turn-around of the so-called 21st Century?
Go right to the After Action Report section to find out.
Movies and pictures are included free of course and you can see it all
right HERE.

We have allot to
cover tonight so lets get right to it.
Leading the pack is turn 5
of the Last Defense AAR from Fionn and Rick. Things are
beginning to look pretty bleak for Rick as Fionn unleashes some hefty
mojo on him. Check it HERE in
the After Action Report section.
Both the Did You Know
above and the Quick Tactics in the New Features area have
been updated. Be sure to give them a looksee as well.
Now what you really came
here to see. The scream of engines, the hammer blows of
machinegun fire and the shrill shriek of rockets can only mean one
thing...
Air Attack!
Air Attack is a new
screenshot and information section dedicated to covering all aspects of
Fighter-Bombers and their depiction in Combat Mission.

Ok, so on with the
show and tonight it's a whopper. Hot off the grill is a new

So this is the new
millennium eh? Hmmm, seems the same as the last one!
Oh well, in that case I guess we will just proceed as normal.
Since no planes have fallen
out of the sky and wrecked into our server we have a few new things for
you this morning. First off we now have the American side of
things (courtesy of John Hough) for the Chance Encounter After
Action Report. All the movies, and both Leland's
and John's new AAR are now available in the After Action Report
section. You can get to it right HERE.
Yesterday, way back in the
20th Century, we put up 3 new Fog shots. Well
now that we are in the 21st Century (ok, not really until next year,
but why be a black sheep) we have added a fourth new picture and
moved them all into the newly opened Page 2 of the Night and
Fog section of the Screenshot Gallery. Click THIS
to go there.
Also tonight, the
final installment in Fionn's ongoing series of Artillery Quick
Tactics has been posted in the New Features section index
page.
So looks like this new
century is starting off pretty well... :-)
